Reverse osmosis questions, answered
What does reverse osmosis actually remove?
More than any other filter. RO forces water through a membrane that blocks dissolved solids, so it reduces chlorine, fluoride, nitrates, PFAS forever chemicals, lead and limescale in your drinking water. Each product page lists what it is rated for.
Do I lose the good minerals too?
RO removes almost everything, including small amounts of beneficial minerals. If that matters to you, choose a remineralising system. It adds calcium and magnesium back after filtration, which also improves the taste.
How much water does RO waste?
Traditional tank systems send some water to drain during filtration. Modern tankless systems are far more efficient and waste much less. If water use is a concern, look at the tankless range.
Do I need a separate tap?
Yes. RO systems run to a dedicated drinking water tap at the sink, so your normal tap is unaffected. Most of our systems include the tap, and we stock upgrades if you want to match your kitchen.
How often do I change the membrane and filters?
Pre and post filters are usually annual. The RO membrane itself lasts around two to three years depending on your water. We will remind you when a change is due.
Will it fit under my sink, and do I need a pump?
Most under-sink cupboards have room, and tankless units are the most compact. If your incoming water pressure is low, a booster pump kit sorts it. Tell us your setup and we will confirm before you order.
About reverse osmosis
Reverse osmosis is the most thorough water treatment you can fit at home. Where a carbon filter improves taste and removes chlorine, RO goes much further, forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane that blocks even dissolved contaminants.
That means it reduces things a standard filter cannot, including fluoride, nitrates, lead and PFAS forever chemicals, along with the dissolved minerals that make up your water's TDS reading. The result is exceptionally pure drinking water straight from a dedicated tap.
The trade-off is that RO removes beneficial minerals along with everything else, and traditional systems send some water to drain. Remineralising systems add calcium and magnesium back, and modern tankless systems cut waste dramatically.
We supply under-sink systems, compact tankless units, countertop options that need no plumbing, and every membrane, cartridge and tap to keep them running. Not sure what you need? Tell us your priorities and we will size the right system with no upsell.
